Rough Notes
Major issue: Brains haven't changed biologically in 200,000 years, yet the availability of information has grown a lot (i.e. we are in an environment of information abundance). We get around 30GB of information a day, another estimate is around 174 newspapers worth.
Quote by Herbert Simon: An abundance of information creates a poverty of attention.
Attention is scarce, even more than time. Engagement is the currency of the modern world.
Ask yourself what you want to take in.
Society did have periods of rapid information increase before - people used the same solution: common-place books. A place to keep quotes, religious verses, recipes, advice and wisdom from others etc. E.g. Da Vinci, and John Locke who even published a book on how to make common-place books. The common-place is the place where you have control (most information comes from other authorities like academia, corporations etc).
People like Da Vinci were creatives, and most of us cannot spend all of our time in creative ideation.
