Learned Helplessness

Depression is often viewed as a lacking the feeling of pleasure, anticipation etc. Theory of learned helplessness suggests that depression is a disordered of abnormal thought, i.e. thinking about the world differently. Specifically, the learning has to do with learning that one is helpless, things are hopeless, they have no control and thus as a result learning the inability to think otherwise. That is, one effectively learns that they are helpless.
